Thursday, March 8th is Susan Duncan Day at Gonzales! It’s a day when we remember and celebrate Susan, who passed away in August 2017, for her support for our school and her leadership on the Santa Fe School Board.
One of Susan’s passions was creating engaging spaces for students to learn outside of the regular school day. A few years ago, she started Hands-on Heritage, a summer program that gives youth the opportunity to explore New Mexico’s beautiful land, history, and culture. She made sure the program would continue without her and she’d want Gonzales students and families to be a part of it. Here’s info about it and how to apply:
Hands-on Heritage: Exploring New Mexico’s Lands and Cultures, June 18 – July 24, Monday-Friday 7:30am-2pm. For students entering grades 4-8, combines hands-on learning with two weekly field trips to local museums, parks, and other natural and cultural sites. Program is based at two locations: El Camino Real Academy and Aspen Community Magnet School. Fee is $250 per student, $50 per additional child. Scholarships are available. Applications will be available at both sites and on the SFPS website.
